Cumberland Island
Saint Marys, GA 31558
$155.00 per person
When I found out there were Islands in GA I was soooo excited. These islands have fishing, hiking, camping, speed boating. This trip was exciting to plan! Please tell me if you want to leave Friday evening or early Sat morning.
Cumberland Island
A short ferry ride transports you to this magnificent unspoiled barrier island, the largest in Georgia's chain of islands just offshore in the Atlantic Ocean. Enjoy over 17 miles of secluded white, sandy beaches. Wild horses and other island wildlife roam freely throughout the ruins, along the beach and across the marsh expanse. A network of over 50 miles of hiking trails, as well as the beach itself allow for easy exploration of the island.
Crooked State Park:
Located on Georgia's Colonial Coast, this park offers cozy facilities in a beautiful setting. Campsites are surrounded by Spanish moss-draped oaks, while cottages are set near the river. A nature trail winds through maritime forest and salt marsh, and hikers may see gopher tortoises, fiddler crabs, herons and other coastal birds. The park?s nature center features fish, snakes, turtles and other animals native to this part of Georgia. A boat ramp is popular with anglers who often take to the water before sunrise. Visitors may venture to the nearby ruins of the tabby ?McIntosh Sugar Works? mill, built around 1825 and later used as a starch factory during the Civil War.
