RAFTING SITE!!!

RAIL:
The 1 hour trip winds along the beautiful Toccoa River in vintage climate controlled or open air rail cars. The relaxing ride starts at the historic depot, built in 1905 in downtown Blue Ridge, then stops for a layover in the quaint sister towns of McCaysville, GA and Copperhill, TN where visitors have an hour and a half, plenty of time to eat lunch, shop for unique crafts and antiques, snack on ice cream. This railroad was built over 100 years ago and is the only mainline railroad excursion service based in Georgia.

Each trip begins at the depot in Blue Ridge, Georgia and includes a stop in McCaysville which permits passengers to disembark and stretch their legs while exploring the downtown communities of McCaysville, Georgia and Copperhill, Tennessee.

RIVER:
The Ocoee River offers two separate sections of big waves, large drops and surging whitewater. This Tennessee river was the site for the whitewater canoe and kayaking events of the 1996 Olympic Games. The Ocoee River produces the most continuous stretch of Class III and IV rapids of any river in the country.
During this five mile trip down the traditional Middle section, everyone in the raft works as a team and paddles upon commands from their guide. Our raft guides are seasoned river runners who will steer you through the rapids.

Whitewater rafting beginners as well as more experienced rafters can all enjoy this fun-filled and exhilarating ride through the rocky, scenic gorge of the Ocoee River.
The Upper section of the Ocoee, the actual Olympic course, is only available for rafting for a limited number of days each season resulting in a high demand for those particular dates. On these special Upper days, Rolling Thunder offers Double Trouble, a raft trip which doubles the fun and adrenaline by running both the traditional section and the Olympic course in the same afternoon.
Trips begin and end at Rolling Thunder?s easy to find Ocoee rafting center in McCaysville, Georgia where we have hot showers, camping sites, picnic areas, bunk rooms, volleyball and a retail store. Click here for directions.
Our rafting center is located on the gentle headwaters of the Ocoee (called the Toccoa when it crosses into Georgia), where inner tubing and canoeing are popular with those guests not ready for whitewater trips.

If you want to Drive, Here are the DIRECTIONS.

From Atlanta Approx. 1 ½ Hrs. Heading north on 1-75, take 1-575 north towards Blue Ridge. In Blue Ridge, GA, take a left onto highway 5 north. (You will see a McDonalds and a Wafflehouse on the left and a bank on the right.) Take highway 5 north till it ends in McCaysville/Copper Hill. Turn right on 60 south towards Mineral Bluff. Follow 60 south 1/2 mile out of McCaysville towards Mineral Bluff. Rolling Thunder will be on your left. Parking is on the right by the river.

I live off of I-575 so it would not make sense for me to meet at IKEA. I will meet the group at Rolling Thunder around 1 p.m.

I enjoyed the whitewater rafting trip. I enjoyed the trip itself and the others who went were all friendly. I would go again but the next time I'd rather do the full trip. We did just the middle part of the river. If anyone plans to go, and by the way the rafting river is the Ocoee and not the Toccoa, I would suggest they request their guide be one of the more experienced ones. I think it would have been even more enjoyable with a more experienced guide. I look forward to more events like this one.
