Hello MATS members and friends.

Your MATS Board is now planning a picnic (with an optional hike or bike ride), at the Palos/Sag Valley Forest Preserve (Swallow Cliff groves).

Save the date of Sunday, May 18th, for a forest preserve picnic with your MATS friends!

Please change your RSVP if necessary to make room for those who couldn't RSVP " Yes " when closed.

We are looking at a 10:00-10:30 start for whoever wants to bike ride and hike, 12:00 to 12:30 start for the grilling and food prep. Arrive early and play volleyball and meet others. We have secured a sheltered picnic grove, and will enjoy a BBQ, volleyball, Frisbee, and anything else (legal) that we want to take on!

If you will be biking, please bring a bike suitable for pea-gravel trails. Let Dave know if you need a bike. A helmet and waiver is also required to ride with the group.

And the best part? This event and the BBQ will be FREE to paid MATS members, and we welcome guests for $5. MATS will provide the grills, meats, water and non-alcoholic beverages. Any alcoholic beverages are BYOB.

smileOur more creative members are encouraged to bring a sample of their favorite sides/desserts. cool

Your participation will help make this event a success!!.

Hope to see you

MATS may want to consider enacting a "no show" rule for events like this. Unpredictible headcounts make it hard to plan for the amount of food, beverages etc. needed. Also, it is quite possible that the event was posted too far in advance; so, what happens is that people forget they RSVP'd. However, that's not a good excuse for them.

Looks like I may not have transportation to get there tomorrow. Is anyone carpooling or coming from the west/northwest suburbs?

Who attended?

    •  I had a fantastic time biking and am so glad to meet a group of people who aren't afraid to get a little muddy every now and then.
    •  I thought the picnic/bike ride was good overall. Everyone was very friendly and I enjoyed myself. The only downside was that many people who RSVP'd that they would be attending failed to do so.

I was there for only a few minutes, maybe 15 minutes; but it was nice, and I had the chance to meet a few people. I look forward to meeting more people from this group. Thank you for the picnic.
    •  As always, well organized and great people (and great burgers, Andy!) Just wish people who RSVP yes would actually show up out of the respect for those people who work so hard to put these things together.
    •  I really enjoyed the trail ride!
    •  It was nice to meet so many new people and get to know others better. Volleyball and Frisbee were very fun. Perfect weather for these sports.

I love these people! I had a great time. The bike trail was in bad shape though due to erosion. The good news is that I saw the repair equipment at the end of the ride. I was sorry to miss the volleyball action.
