Chicago River Day 2008 (16th Annual)
Meeting Description
Details
Join MATS and Friends of the Chicago River and 3,900 volunteers including community members, school groups, corporations, and neighborhood associations for a day of hands-on environmental work and celebration at over 60 sites along 100 miles of sites on Chicago River. Everyone from senior citizens to working professionals to toddlers can find something to contribute and celebrate at Chicago River Day.
WORKDAY - In the morning, volunteers working side-by-side collect garbage and sort for recycling, remove invasive vegetation, spruce up river-edge trails, plant native seedlings, create river-inspired art and explore the Chicago River.
FESTIVAL - After a morning of hard work, Friends invites volunteers to attend our Chicago River Festival. Festival-goers enjoy a free barbeque, live music, an environmental fair, and more.
We will meet at the waterfall in the NE corner of the park. The closest water fountain is across the river, so you may want to bring water. Don't forget the sun protection. T-shirts, bags and gloves will be provided. However, since we depend on donated supplies, there have been glove shortages in the past. So bring gloves if you have them. Street parking is available.
